Witness the Magic of The Northern Lights
Iceland, or should I call it, “Heaven to the eyes-land.” I have always been a great admirer of Iceland. I have always believed that the world was bigger and better back when I was a kid. Iceland felt like the same world of Childhood. The feeling of adventure and zeal inundates the mind when in Iceland. People’s eyes smile, and their hearts dance when in Iceland. The entire place is one hell of a wonder of the World. A few months before, I got a chance to be astounded by the exquisiteness of Iceland.
The country has everything to seduce an adventurous soul. From the freezing glaciers to the secret hot springs, from the unique breath-taking beaches and more than a hundred volcanoes to the heavenly phenomena of the Northern Lights, while in Iceland, there were many instances where I questioned myself whether I was on Earth or some other planet.
As soon as I entered, it felt like I was standing at a point from where the start of an action-filled Sci-fi film was going to take place. I started my adventure with Reykjavik, which is the capital city of Iceland. With marvelous sceneries and a pleasantly inhabiting population, the city has very interesting tales of its settlement as well. This welcoming city has a charm of its own. Enlightened with nature inspired architecture and colorful houses, and with a simple nature of life, the city would delight the mind of the toughest human being.
The tower of Hallgrimskirkja, whose design is inspired by the shape of lava flows, as well as the Conference Centre, Harpa’s architecture is also very well thought of, as it reflects the city’s surroundings and the skies.
With the vast green farms, the happy winds, and the background of coloured houses and giant mountains, the world there seems to be dreamier than the world I know before going to Iceland.
Around 30 miles from the city, in The Golden Circle, I had a never-imagined-of experience of walking amid the tectonic plates of North America and Europe. I mean, I thought these words are only read about, in our school’s Science textbooks. This place in Thingvellir National Park also gives one chance to stand near the largest lake in the country and to wander amid the lava flows- covered grass. Encountering the rapture-filled place where I encountered a boiling cauldron of steam, seeing water touching the skies every few minutes. My last and the most spectacular spot of The Golden Circle was the Golden Falls. The entire place looks like a part of paradise, with the pristine water flowing in all its wellness. I had a feeling of being a protagonist in a Sci-fi mission film.
The next day, I had an amazing time driving around, lost in the wonder of the place, while watching the most beautiful waterfall of Seljalandsfoss, and not very far from there, in Skogafoss, where, as the legends say, hidden was the golden chest of a Viking.
The drive around the country in any direction is sure to surprise anyone with spectacular landscapes and some of nature’s most enthralling beaches and lakes.
All these attractions are accessible easily from Reykjavik. In the end, after all the adventures in different places, I had an amazing time relaxing in the healing thermal waters of the Blue Lagoon.
The beauty of the place is so much to take in, all at once, and would completely satiate any adventurous soul. Not only this, the sight of it could even make one’s poetic side come back to life. Coming back home, I kept stating just one thing: Iceland truly is Creator’s masterwork.
