Norway – Land of the Midnight Sun

I have always been an enthusiast of breathtaking views and picturesque places. Traveling has thus always been the go-to activity to fulfill this hunger of awe. Admired throughout the world for its delightful fjords, spectacular landscapes, and very famous Northern lights, the country of Norway had been on my bucket list for a pretty long time. It’s only recently that I got to live this long-awaited dream of traveling to this land of the Midnight Sun.

I remember stepping into the timeless city of Oslo, lying amid the lively mountains and next to the sea, with the architecture of the past, and the air that makes the present moment so full of life and rapture. Considered one of the greenest cities in the world, walking around for a while and then hopping on the bus was the best decision. I witnessed the diversity of captivating museums, including the Viking Ship Museum, and the architecture of the city at Vigeland Sculpture Park, the Royal Palace, and the Oslo Opera House. Although I couldn’t manage to wait for the show there, the beauty of the building’s design made the visit quite memorable.

I then took a train journey from Oslo to the beautiful city of Bergen in the west. The trip to Bergen was unarguably one of the most spectacular journeys I’ve been on in my life. Through this journey, I passed across majestic forests and mountains, glancing at the glaciers in distance, traveling alongside the beautiful lakes, rivers, and waterfalls, witnessing phenomenal fjords, marvelously- made pretty houses and the citizens throughout this beautiful country. While sipping coffee and admiring the vibrant scenery outside the window, this 300- miles train journey was like the sightseeing of entire Norway in a nutshell.

After reaching Bergen, with a day in my hands, I decided to make the most of it and visited the very famous art museums, including KODE museum, where I witnessed a great collection of my favorite painter, Edward Munch. The Bergen Kunsthall is must-visit art museum in the city. I, then walked around the cute streets of the town, including Skostredet, the shoemaker street. With aesthetically pleasing shops, stores, cafés, this is the best place for a little shopping for trying some delicious cuisines the city offers. For witnessing the cityscape, I went to Mount Floien, and the view of Bergen from that point in the evening was surreal.

Although my trip was overwhelming enough, but I told to myself how the most spectacular and heavenly thing to do in Norway was yet to be done. The Northern lights, yes. It was impossible to imagine leaving Norway without witnessing the popular Northern lights, and so I flew to Tromso from Berner the next day. Known as the capital of the Arctic, Tromso is the best place to view the magical phenomena of Northern lights. I booked my stay there for 3 days. With clear February skies, I was quite lucky to witness the Northern lights for 2 nights, and I remember that time as watching the grand dance of lights over the skies, with colors brighter than the real world, and me, a mere petite observer, watching in wonder something I’ve never seen before, and something I might have never believed belongs to the world I live in. The entire scenery of those 2 days in Tromso felt like it was drawn by the Creator himself. It was extraordinary, marvelous, left me in awe, and I wondered later if it was real, or it was one beautiful dream. It was indeed a dream, my trip to Norway was a dream that I lived, a dream I can’t ever forget.

On my flight back to my home, I felt like I’m going back to being a more beautiful person, the one who know more about the magic in this world, and who has learned to love the entire world a little more every day. A trip to the Land of the Midnight Sun opened my eyes to get a view of the beauty of our own Earth.
